The Making of Late Antiquity (Carl Newell Jackson Lectures)
Published in Hardcover by Harvard Univ Pr (March, 1993)
Author: Peter Brown
Average review score:

Excelent introduction to the Late Antiquity
Brown does an excellent job of introducing the reader to the period of late antiquity in this work. He is able to cover the major political, social and philosophical transition of the Roman Empire of the Antonines to the emergence of the Christian Succesor States with clarity, and accuracy. Although this work does not take an indepth look into any of the many subjects that fall in this period, it is an excellent overview, and maintains a level of scholarship that is almost unparalled in a work of this nature. The book is documented to an excellent degree, so that even the most critical reader can see where it is that Brown is comming from. I would recomend this book to anyone from the avid scholar to the most casual reader.

An excellent introduction to Late Antiquity
Brown is able to establish the foundations for anyone interested in late antiquity with clarity and scholarly depth that is unparelled in the field. This book, although taking a broad picture of the period, and focusing on a shallow over view, rather than taking an indepth look into any perticular aspect of the period, is still scholarly enough to interest even the most particular historian, but will catch the interest of the beginer also. Browns conclusions are well thought out, and are based on an extensive, and acurate picture of the period. The documentation is incredible, hundreds of documents are quoted, and carefully indexed, in a book under 200 hundred pages, so the most nitpicky readers can see exactly where Brown is comming from. This should be the model for broad view scholarly work, this is truly an excellent work.

Making Sense of Your World from a Biblical Viewpoint
Published in Paperback by Moody Publishers (June, 1991)
Authors: W. Gary Phillips and William E. Brown
Average review score:

A Biblical Worldview & Other Worldviews in Light of It
The text is a thorough examination of worldviews...from a Biblical worldview. Presenting composite definitions of all worldviews, the authors then examine them in light of a Biblical worldview. The book is both thoroughly objective and thoroughly apologetic in nature, utilizing their own Biblical bias as the frame of reference for tying up loose ends and bringing every examination full circle.

The book is (1) objective in that it presents every possible worldview, recognizing major categories (i.e. Naturalism, trandscendentalism, thiesm, and a Biblical worldview) and minor subdivisions of the respective worldviews, allowing the case for each to have its place. It is (2) apologetic in the sense that its sole purpose is to, once again, bring every examination full circle back to a sound defense of a Biblical worldview.

The text presents and examines: (1) The concept of worldview; (2) The world of worldviews, when, and how they collide; (3) The case for a Biblical worldview; (4) The essentials of a Biblical worldview; (5) What's wrong? The problem of evil; (6) Who's right: The problem of pluralism; (7) A view for the self; (8) A view for the family; (9) A view for the church; (10) And, a view for the world.

One of the text's greatest strengths is its utilization of practical graphs and illustrations that serve to map out comparisons and contrasts of concepts, among other information. Such graphs include: (1) A classification of major worldviews; (2) Some transcendental distinctions; (3) Theistic religions; (4) Comparisons of worldviews; (5) The canon Jesus affirmed; (6) The canon Jesus anticipated; (7) Ancient texts and the New Testament; (8) And, explanations of personal suffering.

William E. Brown is a professor of Bible and President of Bryan College. W. Gary Phillips is a professor of Bible and Philosophy, Chair of the Division of Biblical Studies at Bryan College, and Pastor of Signal Mountain Bible Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Making Sense of Your World covers it all!
Making Sense is an excellent source for those wishing to study world views. It is a clearly written and well-documented book, which demonstrates the validity of the Christian world view as the thinking person's world view. In preparation for world views presentations, I have gone back to this book several times over the last few years. Making Sense is the best all-around book covering the pivotal issues of world views.

Marauder Man: World War II in the Crucial but Little Known B-26 Marauder Medium Bomber: A Memoir/History
Published in Hardcover by Pacifica Military History (September, 2001)
Authors: Kenneth T. Brown and Brown Kenneth T
Average review score:

Good book!
Ken is an unusual writer - not only was he "there" but he also has a grasp of the mood and color of the times.

Read this book, not so much as a history of the B-26 (there are better books for that) as it is the life of a bomber crew in the closing months of the war.

Enjoyable, enlightening reading from a guy who writes more like a classic author than a navigator on a WWII bomber.

Recommended reading for anyone with an interest in WW II
Marauder Man: World War II In The Crucial But Little Known B-26 Marauder Medium Bomber is the memoir of Ken Brown, a born Quaker and nonviolent by nature, who nevertheless volunteered for service in the United States Army Air Forces during the era of WW II because he recognized fascism for the evil that it was. He became a lead navigator for the Ninth Air Force's veteran 391st Bombardment Group, and learned to admire the strength and reliability of the Martin B-26 Marauder plane in which he and his fellow servicement entrusted their lives. Marauder Man is a firsthand account of the danger, death, and heroism of aircraft combat life. Marauder Man is recommended reading for anyone with a strong interest in World War II aviation history, and a much appreciated memoir for academic and community library military history collections.

The Mark Twain Murders (Brown Bag Mystery Series)
Published in Hardcover by Council Oak Distribution (July, 1989)
Author: Edith Skom
Average review score:

Excellent university/library whodunit
This auspicious debut mystery will please readers who enjoy an academic or library milieu and abundant literary allusions. The ingenious plot involves a group of eccentric English-department faculty members, a handsome FBI agent, plagiarism, thefts of valuable books from the library, and, of course, Mark Twain. It's a well-written, literate novel, and the two sleuths, amateur and professional, are likable, intelligent characters. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the sequels.

A great mystery thriller
Skom's first in her three-book series. I read this awhile ago, long before I anticipated the publishing of another Skom mystery, and I was immediately wrapped up in a teriffic whodunnit. I reread this book, and I reccomend the avid mystery-lover jump on it right away!

Authors: Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, Lura Reynolds, and Judith G. Brown
Average review score:

A great book for kids
I read this book and absolutely loved it. It is a great story for anyone who feels left out or "In the middle". I first read it in junior high and it gave me a character to identify with and a story to enjoy as well. I read it again and again.

THIS BOOK IS GREAT!
Maudie in the Middle is a book about a girl who is in the middle of seven children. She felt that being in the middle she got the worst of everything, because she had to go do chores instead of staying home to play with the youngest children, and she was to young to go do exciting things with her three oldest siblings. Maudie dreamed of being Aunt Sylvie's godchild so that she would get special atention from someone. Maudie thought that if she was good enugh her wish would come true. But it was to hard not to get in to trouble on the farm that she lived in the early 1900's.

Meet the Media with Your Agenda Tape 1: Make the Media Work for You
Published in Audio Cassette by ICC Training (01 February, 1999)
Author: Jerry Brown
Average review score:

This is a "must have" for anyone who needs media exposure
This tape is a "must have" for anyone who needs media exposure. It gives first-hand advice on how best to work with the media. As a former journalist and communications consultant who has worked on both sides of the fence, I was impressed with how much truthful, useful information Jerry Brown was able to package into the tape. We do media training ourselves, and have recommended this tape as "home work" to several of our clients. It's a real winner.

A "must-have" series for the business that wants good press!
With "Meet the Media with Your Agenda", Jerry Brown has done the seemingly impossible - he's given us the "Magic Bullet" for receiving positive media coverage. I got these tapes after seeing one of Jerry Brown's live presentations to public relations professionals. Before my life in public relations, I spent 15 years as a television news reporter. I thought I knew all the corporate tricks - and certainly, I wouldn't be suckered by a company trying to use me to sell their products or their name. But trust me, the "tricks" that Jerry Brown will teach you will intrigue even the most cynical of reporters.. and you will find your business featured prominently and positivly in print and broadcast. I know - I've been using these tricks, each of them quite simple, and the results have been astonishing. I recommend these tapes to ANY business that interfaces with the media. Even the most media-saavy public relations professional will learn something.
